Circle Dance

Duna Dance Workshop

This contemporary folk dance show was inspired by Mihály Kornis’s farce written at the end of the 1980s. It is not the aim of this performance to pick on the Kádár-regime or to draw comparisons between goulash communism and today’s Hungary. The production expands Kornis’s snapshot, and by digging deeper into its pathology of the times, it attempts to make valid, current comments about what it means to be Hungarian today, and about the nature of the country’s history, which has turned into its fate. Hungary has been dancing in this circle for centuries...

Kornis’s characters are developed with various dance techniques and dance performance methods. Besides the folk dancers of Duna Dance Workshop, artists from various areas of contemporary dance help bring these characters to life.
