Ken Kesey - Dale Wassermann: One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest

Balett Pécs

- Dance Theatre Performance in 2 Acts -

Our performance is the dance theatre adaptation of Ken Kesey’s novel that has become a cultic standard work by today. In the story the embodiment of power is the Head Nurse of the mental institution, Nurse Ratched, who rather successfully forces the patients of her ward into the acceptance of the rules made by her. The patients with various personalities and backgrounds living in the institution under force or voluntarily equally obey her. Even those don’t flee who could actually do it. McMurphy, the prisoner who is transported to the institution for examination doesn’t understand this either. He becomes their leader and attempts to shake them out of their immeasurable apathy. From among his fellow patients only the half-breed Indian Bromden, also called the Chief, understands him, who realizes McMurphy plan: he escapes. Suggesting that it is worth revolting against inhumanity – even if it requires sacrifice - human dignity can be regained.
