Lajtha

A performance by the Badora Company

As Emőke Tari Solymosi, a dedicated scholar of László Lajtha’s music wrote, Capriccio is “perhaps the most joyful and shining composition of his life’s works, created during one of the most sorrowful, tragic periods of Hungarian history, during the bombing of Budapest, clearly representing an inner need to escape reality”.

This time, Dóra Barta is nor following a traditional method: besides the original story of Capriccio, she places emphasis on the personality of the composer, László Lajtha. His life and inner world comes to life on stage; the musical piece gives an excuse to look behind the story of how the piece was conceived.

This is an unusual undertaking, a bold attempt to focus on the composer at the same time as performing the piece. László Lajtha’s personality and his difficulties provide exciting raw material to make the deservedness of this new approach unquestionable.

With the cooperation of: The Orchestra of the Franz Liszt Academy of Music
Conductor: Gergely Ménesi
Director-choreographer: Dóra Barta

This is a joint production of the Budapest Spring Festival, the Franz Liszt Academy of Music, the Badora Company and the National Dance Theatre.

A Lajtha szakmai program megvalósítását 2017. évben a Magyar Művészeti Akadémia támogatta.
